Mercedes-AMG has finally introduced two new offerings to the mid-sized SUV in the form of the GLC63 and GLC63 Coupe. The new models feature the familiar and well known 4.0 liter V8 found in the sedan which is mated with an AMG performance 4Matic+ system.

The standard variants will pump out 476 horsepower and 650Nm of torque while the S variants will push 510 horsepower and 780Nm of torque. A 9-speed transmission helps propel the S variants to 100km/h in 3,8 seconds while the standard variants will settle for 0-100km/h in 4,0 seconds. If you worried about fuel consumption all models will average around 10,5l per 100km.

The design is distinctively AMG with the iconic Pan Americana grill and aggressive lower air intakes with horizontal slats. Wider wheel arch claddings further highlight the car’s aggressive character. In the interior department, little has changed from the normal GLCs and sedans apart from the addition of AMG badges and DINAMICA microfiber inserts. An “Edition 1” model will be available for the start of production featuring similar livery to the AMG GT3 race car with a matt grey finish and yellow stripe.

Order will begin to be taken from June with cars being delivered to customers around September. In my opinion this is bound to be another success story for Affalterbach with AMG’s dominating the design and quality sector. The GLC63 should put up a solid fight against the Porsche Macan and it will be interesting to see if BMW joins in.
