BMW has just unveiled the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe at the Geneva International Motorshow and is being labeled as being ultra-sporty, extrovert and polarizing.
The 8 Series line-up will become the new flagship model of BMW which combines both sportiness and elegance. The Concept M8 Gran Coupe is the four-door performance variation of BMW’s new 8 Series line-up. It sports “beastly” looks with sweeping lines. The Concept M8 Gran Coupe sports a face of an unbroken grille in order to create a ‘large single element’. The kidney grilles have been broadened in order to emphasize the car’s low center of gravity.
The car pictured here is finished in a ‘Salève Vert’ paintwork which is slightly bichromic and is officially a ‘Concept’. BMW’s concepts are usually not far off from the end result. We can expect to see the M8 Gran Coupe probably with slightly more toned down bumpers, lighting, curves and gain some door handles to make it a bit more road-friendly.
The M8 is expected to have a twin turbo 4.4-liter V8 pushing out upwards of 600bhp while sporting an 8 speed automatic gearbox with paddleshifts similarly to the M5.
The new 8 Series will indirectly replace the 6 Series and be targeted more to BMW’s upmarket clients. It will be competing with the elegant S-Class offered by Mercedes.
The President of BMW’s M Division, Frank van Meel, explained a couple of months ago: “The conception and development of the standard BMW 8 Series and the M model run in parallel. The future BMW M8 will build on the genes of the 8 Series and augment its DNA with added track ability and generous extra portions of dynamic sharpness, precision and agility.”
The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe and BMW M8 Gran Coupe production models are expected to be introduced in 2019.
