Lately, I haven’t been too captivated by the new cars rolling out of manufacturers doors, but there was a particular Ferrari which immediately captured my attention by just looking at pictures.

I got a tip from an anonymous source that the first 488 Pista was going to be delivered the very next day. The next morning I set out in search for the new stallion and decided to set-up base outside the Scuderia Ferrari Johannesburg dealership. I got a glimpse through the dealership windows where a very special stallion was resting in its stable.

I sat in my car for the next 5 minutes contemplating on whether I should go into the dealership as I wasn’t sure if I’d be allowed to photograph the 488 Pista. Changing my mind, I went inside the dealership where I was greeted with smiles and shown great hospitality by the Scuderia JHB team.

The wait was over…

I finally got to see the Pista in the flesh. My word, is it not stunning! The Pista took my breathe away when I seen it. The aesthetics are just mind blowing. It took me a while just to let all the beauty of the car sink in. The curves, the grooves, the ducts… WOW!

Pista translating from Italian to English, means track. The name “Pista” is a homage to Ferrari’s unparalleled heritage in motor sports.

The Pista is a special series car from the 488 line which has increased power and is considerably lighter than the 488 GTB.

Together with all the weight reduction, 50 hp was added. An incredible 90 kg was shaved off, making it have a dry weight of only 1,280 kg. Thus, making it have a total of 711 hp.

The Pista received the most powerful V8 engine in Ferrari history. The 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine now produces 770 Nm of torque which means it gained 10 Nm in comparison to the 488 GTB. It takes the Pista a mere 2.85 seconds to do 0 to 100 km/h and it can do 0 to 200 km/h in 7.6 seconds. The Pista has a top speed of 340 km/h.

The Italian bred 488 Pista is a masterpiece which is the successor to Ferrari’s V8 special series – the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia and 458 Speciale.
